Albums vs. Scrapbooks

Many folks get paralyzed by the process, or even the thought of, making an album.  "I'm not creative", "I'm already behind by so many years", "I don't know where to start", "I don't have the time", "I'm not a girl/woman".  Does any of this sound familiar?  Keep in mind that anyone can make an album.  Anyone can put some pictures on a page and tell the story with it.  In ten, twenty, fifty years, no one will care what stickers or techniques were used on a page.  They will care that they have printed pictures and the stories that go along with those pictures.  They will be thankful that their mom, dad, grandparents, best friend, whoever, took the time to get these photos and stories into an album.

And notice I'm calling it an album, not a scrapbook.  I've noticed that as soon as I mention scrapbooking to friends, family, etc, eyes start to glaze over.  Scrapbooking today seems to conjure up visions of an elaborate, time-consuming hobby done only by stay-at-home moms of young children.   This is such an outdated stereotype.  Though many people do enjoy spending time crafting the "perfect" scrapbook page, that is not the true goal of album-making.  The goal is to get our photos out of our cameras & computers and into the hands or laps of our friends and families.

Where are your pictures today?  Are the stories with those pictures?  I'd love to hear from you on what would, or does, motiviate you to create an album.
